1. How long will my appointment be?

An initial appointment typically lasts up to one hour. Your horse may receive chiropractic, acupuncture, Class IV Laser therapy, or a combination of these treatments depending on your booking. Other modalities may include taping and myofascial release. Exercises will be prescribed as necessary. Follow-up appointments are usually completed in 45 minutes or less. Please keep in mind that five to ten minutes of your appointment will be spent writing clinical notes.

2. how many sessions will my horse need?

When it comes to determining the number of treatment sessions, the horse's condition and how it responds will be key factors. Once Dr Holland is happy with the horse she will then give you guidance for your horse for a maintenance treatment plan to keep it in great condition.

3. How soon after treatment can I ride my horse again?

Your horse must rest for 24 to 48 hours after treatment, ideally in a paddock. Depending on the condition being treated, your horse may feel some discomfort for a short while. Certain situations may demand a longer period of rest for recuperation.

4. I'm preparing for a competition. If my horse is receiving treatment, is it appropriate to attend?

Chiropractic has been shown to improve performance leading up to events. Also, acupuncture or Class IV Laser offers a drug-free alternative to pain management, which is ideal for competing horses. However, competitions should be avoided for two weeks after your horse's initial treatment. Only after assessing your horse's initial response to treatment then Dr. Holland will advise you about supporting your competing schedule.

5. Is acupuncture a suitable treatment for horses that dislike needles?

Contrary to the hypodermic needles used by veterinary surgeons for injections, acupuncture needles are very fine and do not have a cutting blade. They are typically well-tolerated by horses. As the treatment progresses, the horse generally becomes extremely relaxed.

6. Is my horse too young or too old for treatment?

There are no restrictions based on age. Older horses reap enormous benefits from a range of non-invasive therapies. These treatments keep their joints supple and offer considerable pain relief. They also reduce the amount of medicated pain relief they require, which minimises drug side effects. Foals can be adjusted from birth, and chiropractic is highly recommended to give young horses the best possible start in life.

7. Do treatments help ponies?

Yes they definitely benefit from treatment Dr Holland treats all types of ponies with varying careers.

8. Does Dr Angela Holland Equine Plus offer other types of routine veterinary care?

No, only supplementary therapies are offered. These include equine chiropractic, acupuncture, myofascial release, Class IV laser therapy and rehabilitation. You must contact your primary Veterinary Surgeon if you require traditional veterinary care, including emergency and out of hours care.

9. Where can I see Dr Angela Holland?

We are situated in North Wales, close to the border with Cheshire. Consultations, assessments and clinics are available in Flintshire, Cheshire, Shropshire and Merseyside. Although she primarily serves North Wales and the North West of England, Dr Holland can travel anywhere for treatment, subject to her availability. You are welcome to bring your horse to Whitegate Farm & Livery Training Centre, which is located just outside Chester and has excellent horse assessment facilities. 10. Will I get a report?

No as all Dr Hollands notes are in chiropractic shorthand. In-depth reports are available at additional cost as they take approximately an hour to write depending on Dr Hollands findings.
